Frequently Asked Questions
Why lessons?
Lessons in the Alexander Technique are about learning a new skill;
and the learning of any new skill requires time. As you become aware
of habitual and unwanted patterns of tension, (and the thoughts
and feelings from which they arise); you can learn to prevent them
by choosing new and better ways of accomplishing your tasks. Once
learnt, the technique becomes a skill for life, promoting wellbeing
and enhancing performance in any sphere; in sports, for example,
or in playing a musical instrument. Unwanted affects of stress,
anxiety, discomfort or pain are also reduced and prevented. No person
is too young or old to benefit from the Alexander Technique.

or treatment, but may benefit the following:
| . |
Back and neck pain, tension headaches, OOS |
| . |

What happens in a lesson?
In a course of lessons we address the unconscious
misuse of our bodies/selves, which makes ordinary activities such
as sitting at a computer, bending, lifting, walking, and speaking,
unnecessarily tense and effortful, even painful. With regular lessons,
everyday activities transform, becoming lighter, freer, and easier.
My role as teacher, is to facilitate the learning process by guiding
you with gentle hands on and verbal instruction in simple
everyday acts, until such time as you can apply the technique yourself.
How many lessons will I need?
This will depend on why you wish to have lessons.
Also, it depends on the level of skill you wish to attain. If we
make a comparison to learning a musical instrument, practice and
guidance increase the level of skill; and so it is with the Alexander
Technique. Generally, a course of lessons is recommended over several
months. At first, it is important to have weekly lessons to get
the process going within you. As your ability to work with
Alexander principles increases, lessons can reduce in frequency
until you become self directed.
Are lessons on a one to one basis and what
do I wear?
Initially lessons are on a one to one basis.
Introductory groups, and small group classes for those who have
completed a course of lessons are also available.
There are no special clothing requirements for lessons, but it is
important to wear clothing which feels comfortable when lying down,
and allows you to move freely.
How long is a lesson and what is the cost?
Introductory lessons are 1 hour in length and
cost $60.00
Regular lessons are 45 minutes in length and cost $55.00.
A course of 10 lessons paid in advance costs $500.00
